Nikita De Souza | Team Feature

Nikita De Souza is not just our energy consultant, she’s also a whizz with graphics, the website and an avid fan of graphic novels. Read below to find out a little more about what makes her tick and why she works in solar.

  1. You’re the energy consultant at Sun Electric. Can you tell us a little bit about your role?

Despite having the title of energy consultant I’m known mostly for my involvement with the designing materials as well as maintaining the corporate website. I enjoy getting involved with the creative side as well as I graduated initially doing visual communications.

  1. Why did you decide to work in solar?

Funny thing is I’ve always cared about the environment but it wasn’t something I genuinely thought I’d get into after university. My first job after university was for a solar company doing marketing collaterals and that’s when I realised that I actually enjoyed being in renewable energy and trying to make a difference on a small scale in my own way.

  1. How would you describe Sun Electric?

I’ve worked in mostly start up companies and I honestly enjoy the environment a lot more. You tend to build closer relationships with your work colleagues and you pick up a lot more different skills as usually you play more than one role.

  1. Tell us about a project you’ve recently worked on that you’re excited about.

I’m maintaining the Sun Electric website and updating it each and everyday to make it the best version it could be is highly satisfying to me. I am also working on Sun Electric’s mascot which finger’s crossed can see his debut next year!

  1. Where do you see the industry going in the coming years?

In the near future I can see more people in Singapore opting for green energy, especially once they are aware about the other energy options. I think it’s more on educating the public and letting them understand they actually have alternative choices.

  1. What is something random / fun about you that not a lot of people know?

I love drawing/doodling. Art has always been a big source of inspiration for me. My favourite artist for a long time has been Mcbess. I’ve always been very much into old school cartooning style of illustrations.

Music is one of my inspirations as well. I love listening to a song and understanding the lyrics behind it.
Once I understand the lyrics to a song it holds more sentimental meaning to me.

Listen to my favourites;

All Cried out – Blonde ft Alex Newell
6AM – Gorgon City ft Tish Hyman
Up and down – Kattison
Working for it – ZHU, Skrillex, THEY.
Leave me – Marc Talein ft Haidara
Blow – Clyde P
I don’t know – Michael Mandal
Don’t give up on love – Blinkie
Take me away – DJ SKT ft Rae
Say Nada – Shakka, Full Crate

  1. What is the best book you’ve ever read?

If I’m being completely honest, I prefer graphic books to reading books. Here are my favourites:

Maus by Art Spiegelman
The Armed Garden and other stories by David B.
Pim & Francie: The Golden Bear Days by Al Columbia
