Am I eligible for Sun Electric CIS? How do I know if my company is enrolled?

As long as your company uses Sun Electric to power their business, their employees are eligible for the Sun Electric CIS programme.

To if check if your company is enrolled to the Sun Electric CIS programme, you may:

  1. Check with your company’s HR department, or
  2. Drop us an email with your enquiry at info@sunelectric.com.sg
Can I downgrade or terminate my CIS subscription?

Yes, you can. Please email us at electricity@sunelectric.com.sg for more details. Do note that a termination fee applies if your electricity supply is still in contract.

How do I apply for the Sun Electric CIS?

How long is the contract period?

Under the CIS programme, the contract period is 2 years.

I am already a Sun Electric customer. Can I get CIS benefits?

CIS benefits can only be applied by customers who are new to Sun Electric.

I don’t have a corporate email address. How can I sign up for the CIS programme?

Send us an email at info@sunelectric.com.sg with a copy of your staff id or any proof.

My company is currently not in the CIS programme. How can I enrol my company?

We look forward to have you on-board Sun Electric CIS! Kindly drop us an email at info@sunelectric.com.sg and we will respond within 2 working days.

What are the administrative charges?

Similar to your current retailer, you are required to pay a 2 months security deposit to open an account with us. There are no other registration fees or any hidden costs.

What if I leave my employer before the end of my contract? Will my contract be terminated?

No, as long as you are a CIS customer, you will remain a CIS customer. However, please remember to update your contact information.

What is Sun Electric CIS?

Designed to benefit employees of participating companies in Singapore, Sun Electric Corporate Individual Scheme (CIS) provides exclusive perks such as exclusive discounts, priority services and registration. Each employee from the participating company can also sign up their family members living in separate households.

What is the discount offered on the monthly subscriptions for my company?

Depending on your household, we can offer you a discount off the SP tariff. Additionally, we offer an exclusive one time signup bonus only for CIS customers.

Commercial

Can I switch seamlessly between solar energy and the incumbent electricity service provider?

Energy consumers can switch seamlessly between their existing service provider to Sun Electric. Sun Electric will then facilitate the transfer of the user account in cooperation with the Market Support Services License (MSSL).

Can I transfer back to SP if needed?

You have the option to transfer back to SP upon expiration of your existing retail contract.

Do I need a roof to obtain solar energy?

No, you do not need to have access to a roof to buy solar energy.

How are bills paid?

Bills can be paid via cheque or GIRO.

How can I buy electricity from Sun Electric?

You can contact us at +65 6651 5484 or email electricity@sunelectric.com.sg to get started. You will then meet with Sun Electric’s power analyst to assess your electricity consumption profile. Sun Electric has varying solar energy options to supply your facilities with an optimum amount of power. Sign a power agreement with us and you are set to go!

How can I monitor and track my electricity usage with Sun Electric? Is there an app?

Sun Electric will provide the consumer with a measurement of the total clean energy delivered to them each month. Consumers who wish to obtain additional details may log into their accounts online (at https://portal.sunelectric.com.sg/) to observe the real time generation of energy to them.

How easy is it to switch from my current electricity provider?

Three step process and a seamless transition experience.

  3. Sit and relax, we’ll do everything else.
How much can I save by buying solar energy, compared to buying electricity from SP Services?

You can potentially save up to 16.5% off your current monthly electricity bills.
Furthermore, the installation of a dedicated solar power system may protect
you against rising energy costs.

Is the electricity supply contingent on the building or on the tenants?

Every solar system project will first start with a conversation with our power engineer to see if solar energy is suitable for you.

Is the first consultation free of charge and what does it entails?

There is no charge for the initial consultation. During the first consultation, Sun Electric will study your electricity consumption and propose the best Electricity Product Package for you. Sun Electric will also evaluate your clean energy goals and allocate a specific priority access of that consumer to its photovoltaic generation facilities so that it can guarantee an amount of clean energy that it requires.

Is the service reliable?

Solar power systems are usually very reliable and can produce energy for more
than 25 years due to the durability of photovoltaic modules. Warranties on our
energy systems have a duration of about 25 years. Solar energy is converted through an electrical inverter at a point of contact to the power grid. Electrical inverters generally create a very pure power harmonic integrated to the power grid. As such, solar energy generators provide the highest power quality compared to other technologies for power Generation. Solar energy generators are distributed through the city and can precisely deliver power closer to the points of high demand. In turn, this reduces stress on the power grid and reduces transmission loss of transporting energy through the power grid, cutting down on wasteful generation of energy. Sun Electric will also take care of repairs in the event of breakdown.

What are the environmental impact and benefits of solar energy?

Solar power systems derive clean energy from the sun. Installing solar panels or buying solar energy reduces our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce toxic emissions and may also help to fight global warming.

What distinguishes Sun Electric from other energy retailers?

We are the only utility that can consistently tag and measure your monthly solar consumption and usage. Sun Electric is the first solar energy retailer in Singapore, and the developer of technology that tracks your energy usage on the energy grid!

What happens if there is a supply outage?

In the event of a supply outage, consumers will receive conventional energy as supplied through the energy grid which Sun Electric procures in addition to its solar energy generation facilities. Consumers will not observe any disruption in their energy supplies even during a supply outage. Sun Electric uses a logistics model to calculate an appropriate buffer level of energy purchases such that it is able to satisfy any guarantee in respect of a minimum level of clean energy it has promised to a consumer.

What if the organization decides to move or change location?

Sun Electric’s generators are installed within the local power grid on building rooftops under long term agreements. Consumers can move between offices and still receive their clean energy. Consumers just need to notify Sun Electric of their change of address.

What if the system does not meet 100% of the site’s electric load?

Sun Electric’s energy management software and operating systems optimize the allocation of solar energy along with any additional energy resources required by the consumer. Consumers will receive an audit statement each month outlining the total clean energy delivered to consumers along with the additional energy resources utilized. Sun Electric, being a participant of the Electricity Futures markets, can additionally optimize consumers’ supply through trade in the energy markets, further protecting them from changes in price and allocating backup supply
services if needed.

Who can buy solar energy from Sun Electric?

All non-residential consumers who use at least 2,000 kW per month (about $500) are able to buy solar energy from Sun Electric through the various options offered. All residential consumers will be able to choose Sun Electric as their electricity provider from March 2018 onwards when the Singapore electricity market has been deregulated.

Why can’t residential consumers buy solar energy from Sun Electric?

At this point in time, residential consumers can only buy electricity from SP Services at the regulated tariff.

Why should I buy solar energy from Sun Electric?

Sun Electric is the first local solar energy firm to receive a retail license in Singapore, providing contestable consumers (businesses) a cost-competitive and convenient way to access solar energy. Sun Electric offers a proprietary service that evaluates the total real time solar energy delivered to the consumer. Other clean energy providers may not provide any guarantees to those consumers on the amount of clean energy provided to them.

Will the government provide an energy rebate for solar energy?

The Singapore government currently does not offer rebates for consumers who adopt clean energy. The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) offers Green Mark awards for buildings who consume 1-3% of solar energy.

What is the transmission cost?

The discount of tariff price plan is inclusive of tariff prices. This charge is incurred for the use of the national grid that is maintained by SIngapore Power

When you do the switch is it purely using solar?

Sun Electric offers our residential customers a blend of solar and conventional electricity through our SolarFlex and SolarLite products.

SolarFlex will be the most cost competitive plan that allows our customers to receive, up to 5% solar.

SolarLite customers will be given at least 5% solar through the month

Where are the solar panels, is there enough?

Sun Electric has solar panels installed on rooftops all over Singapore. We have installations lined up for the next 3-4 years. As we are able to mix the amount of solar and conventional power for you, you will always continue to receive undisrupted power.

Will I get consistent stream of energy?

Yes, Singapore Power will still be maintaining the national grid. Therefore, there will still be a consistent stream of energy throughout your contract with us.

Will it be cheaper or more expensive?

Sun Electric will be able to offer our customers up to 16% discount off the Singapore Power (SP) tariff. Therefore, we will always be cheaper than SP

Will you be expanding your network?

Yes, Sun Electric is continually expanding our network of solar generators. In 2018 alone, we aim to commission at least 5MW of installations.

Rooftop

Am I responsible for making any payments to Sun Electric or for my generator?

Although there are options to purchase solar energy from Sun Electric, there is no obligation to do so even while participating in the SolarSpace® programme. As such, the building will only receive revenue that is due and will not be charged additionally even if there is a drop in the local energy rate.The building owners also have the option to co-invest into the solar energy generator with Sun Electric. Through this co-investment, the building can make additional income from the solar energy generator.

This is on top of the regular income from participating in the SolarSpace® programme.

Can I offer my rooftop as part of the SolarSpace® programme but have an energy provider who is different from Sun Electric?

Yes, Sun Electric can install a solar energy generator at your building even if power is being supplied by a different energy provider.

Do I need to purchase energy from Sun Electric if I install solar panels on my roof as part of the SolarSpace® programme?

As part of the consultation, Sun Electric will provide rooftop owners with various options to purchase solar energy, however there is no obligation to do so.

Do I need to sign any agreement with Sun Electric?

Rooftop owners need to sign a license agreement with Sun Electric and allow the company to request for an electrical permit on behalf of the building.

How do I know how much solar energy is generated?

Before signing a lease agreement, Sun Electric will do a comprehensive assessment of your facilities. Thereafter, we will send you a specific quantitative report which includes revenue data and power generation data. Rooftop owners who wish to obtain additional details may log onto their accounts online to observe the real time generation of electricity.

How long do I need to let Sun Electric use my rooftop?

Sun Electric will use the roof space until the stipulated end date as stated on the license agreement. After which, rooftop owners have the option of buying the solar system or continue to provide roof space to Sun Electric.

How long will the solar energy system last?

Typically, a solar energy system will produce energy for more than 25 years due to the durability of photovoltaic modules. Warranties on our energy systems have a duration of about 25 years.

How much revenue can I expect to make by providing my roof as part of the SolarSpace® programme?

Before signing the lease agreement, Sun Electric will do a comprehensive assessment of your facilities. Thereafter, we will send you a specific quantitative report which includes revenue data and power generation data.

Is there any risk that my rooftop will be damaged from the installation of solar Panels?

Sun Electric will maintain the solar system and will not damage nor modify the existing roof seals.

What are the additional benefits of providing my rooftop to Sun Electric?

The solar panels when installed, will reduce the thermal roof heat transfer in the building, keeping the building cooler. Furthermore, the panels will limit acoustic noise during rain and will protect the roof seal which will no longer be exposed to harmful UV rays. The lifespan of the seal can be extended as a result.

What is the difference between Sun Electric’s offer and solar leasing business model which are already matured in Singapore market?

Under SolarSpace® programme, roof developers have options of not to purchase the generated energy or purchase clean energy which are more than what your roof allowed via our retail arm. With Sun Electric patterned innovation, the generated clean energy is able to sell as clean energy to other contestable client hence the roof developers’ energy consumption is not our concern.

Who is responsible for the waterproofing warranty if the Solar Energy Generators are installers under SolarSpace® programme?

Should there is leakage happens proven to because of the solar PV system, Sun Electric shall take responsible to reseal the leakage area.

You will not be able to get access to the one time discount, but you will still receive our Sponsor’s deals and promotions through Sun Electric’s communications. Every Sun Electric customer automatically becomes part of the Sponsorship Community.
